Weekly Stock Market Update & SPY Technical Analysis
Banks begin to report earnings this week, which means it’s officially the start of the first quarterly earnings season of 2026. Seasoned traders and investors understand that this earnings season is critical because it comes just weeks after market valuations fell under concerns and it’ll also test indexes are their record highs. Many stocks are priced for perfection, meaning companies must meet or exceed expectations to avoid furthering concerns and a valuation correction.
It sounds intimidating, but it’s also the BEST time to build a list of new opportunities and manage your existing set-ups. Earnings season lets you know how companies are doing behind the scenes and how they’ll do for the next quarter or year. Those that improve in the areas that were weak, raise guidance, or exceed expectations should be noted down as they could provide a rally continuation in the weeks and months to come.
Apart from earnings, this week is FILLED with key economic data. Reports that were delayed due to the government shutdown will hit the line, showing investors exactly how the economy handles the fourth quarter, inflation and retail sales being the focus. Here’s the schedule:
- Three Fed Speakers (Mon)
- U.S. Consumer Price Index - Inflation Report (Tue)
- U.S. Budget Deficit (Tue)
- U.S. Retail Sales (Wed)
- U.S. Producer Price Index (Wed)
- Fed’s Beige Book (Wed)
- Initial Jobless Claims (Thu)
We’ll be covering these reports in our daily morning updates for Hyper Stocks Pro members and highlighting any significant changes. Most economic data does not have immediate impact on markets, but it is critical to shape our long term strategy. Hence why we pay close attention to these reports.
Other key events to consider:
- Venezuela’s ongoing uncertainty around new leadership, oil, and whether or not China and Russia will retaliate.
- Despite a negative response from the globe, Greenland is becoming a topic again as the Trump administration pushes to acquire the frozen land from Denmark. If we take the “ethics” out of it, acquiring Greenland would be a huge win for the U.S. and its economy due to its mineral rich land and strategic location (not taking sides, just reality). However one should still consider any retaliation from adversaries, similar to how the U.S. intervened against Russia upon the invasion of Ukraine.
SPY Technical Analysis:
SPY reached a new all time high last week as traders despite global disruption and geopolitical uncertainty. Implied volatility fell on Friday, but it had been increasing over the past ten days leading up to this week’s critical events. This sets the stage for big moves depending on the reports’ outcomes…we’ll be updating levels daily for our Hyper Stocks Pro members.
