SentinelOne (S) Pre-earnings Analysis
Like many other cybersecurity stocks, SentinelOne continues to post strong earnings, but the stock itself continues to suffer. This is a common theme in the industry as a whole, where strong revenue growth and improving margins are being overshadowed by broader market concerns around valuation and slowing enterprise IT spending.
Many cybersecurity companies were major beneficiaries of the post-pandemic digital transformation boom, which pushed their valuations to extremely high levels. Now, even as these businesses continue to deliver solid fundamentals, investors have become far more selective, demanding profitability and sustainable cash flow rather than just rapid growth.
For SentinelOne, the long term story remains intact. Cybersecurity spending is still one of the most resilient areas of enterprise IT budgets…and the company is trying to remain relevant by ramping up its AI initiatives. Their AI powered cybersecurity platform “Singularity” uses behavioral AI to identify and stop threats in real time. They’re also working on Purple AI, a generative AI assistant that allows security teams to use natural language to look for threats.
These projects, along with others, are an attempt to remain relevant in a very competitive industry. SentinelOne is up against names like CrowdStrike, which are usually the industry’s gold standard for large enterprises, but $S is slowly winning as the more “automated” and cost effective alternative.
Financials:
While revenue growth has been trending up, the pace of growth has slowed. Revenue grew by 47% in 2023, 32% in 2024, but has averaged about 21% last year in the first three quarters. $S reports its 4th quarter earnings today, current projects show about 20% revenue growth YoY.
Even if $S tops revenue growth expectations, the big focus is on margins and whether or not they’re still on track to turn profitable in 2026. 2026 and on are expected to be good for $S in terms of finally turning a profit…if they reaffirm that outlook, it may spark a rally in the coming quarter.
Option chain analysis:
$S option chain expiring on March 20th currently reflects an implied volatility reading of 105%, which is about a (+/-) $1.77 move from the underlying stock.
